A swarm of
20,000
bees began building a nest inside the
engine of a
Mango Airlines jet in South Africa
, and had to be removed by bee keepers
before the flight could take off.
I wonder what would have happened if they had simply turned on the engine.

Bees on a plane

I would gladly forfeit my ticket to not fly on that plane again. How long does it take for a swarm to take up residence in a nacelle? Is this one of those airlines (*cough*
Allegiant)
that has like 3 planes they use once a week, but pretend to be a real airline?

hmmm... i dont think a swarm of bees or even a fully built nest would have hurt that engine much...
that said probably best to not test it

I’ve combed the Internet and can’t find where this has ever happened beefore. Definitely a sticky situation, but with a sweet outcome.

They must of bee’n quick.
Aircraft aren’t on the apron all that long, they must of made a bee-line for the p lane.

Well they are named for a fruit and/or a bad Chris Kattan SNL character, so there’s that.

I’m calling Bee Ess on that one.
There’s no way they had time to “start building a nest” in the engine of a commercial airplane. First, they would need a lot of time to even get started. Second, they build hives, not nests. Morons.

The story is a bit inconsistent. At one point, they say that the bees were just resting. Another time they say the bees were building a hive. They should have just fired up the engine.
